Happy New Woodworking Year!

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Hi Everyone.

Just a quick note to wish you a very Happy New Year.

Several woodworking suppliers have new stuff for 2009 so now’s a good time to have a browse around the internet and see what you can pick up.

Amongst my favorites are Clockparts, who regular visitors will know have an excellent range of… surprise, surprise, clock parts. There are quite a few new products so well worth a visit. Click here for details.

I’ve also been informed that with the recent downturn in mind Complete Craft Book Publishing have slashed 25% off the price of their excellent downloadable ebook. It was very affordable before, now it’s a bargain.

Nowadays anyone can publish their own craft book so if you’d like some insight into this potentially lucrative market, now’s as good a time as any. It’s something I’ve done myself and I highly recommend it if you fancy having a go. Click here for all the info and the new low price.

Good luck, good woodworking and good health for 2009!

Triton Wood Rack at 25% off!

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Triton Wood RackSo how do you store your wood? Big heap on the floor? Jerry-built rack leaning over alarmingly? Well for a limited time you can get this superb Triton Wood Rack for 25% off at Woodcraft.

Triton call it a “Wood Rack System” which is a bit of a posh name for some shelving if you ask me, but the figures certainly add up: Each layer can hold 110lbs of weight, 41 inches of length and almost 13 inches of depth - which should pretty much take care of your storage needs. Nice and tidy!

Full details online at Woodcraft but you need to be quick. Offer lasts until 31st October. Click here now.

Thermometer and Hygrometer fit ups - 4th July special

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Thermometer and Hygrometer fit-upClockparts have yet another special offer - this time they say it’s to celebrate the fourth of July - I hope the offer lasts longer than that though!

The current savings are on some of their popular thermometer and hygrometer fit-ups, 2-3/4 inch and 3-7/8 inch units. These are easy to fit, just make an appropriate sized hole and pop them in. Remarkably you can now get them at up to 90% 0ff!

I’ve been a fan of Clockparts for some time now. Always good prices, regular great offers and the sort of service that’s made them the biggest (and in my opinion the best) in the business.

I suspect the offer will last more than one day but I can’t see and closure date so you probably ought to get over their quick if you’re in the market for thermometers or hygrometers. Click here for the site.

Cheapest Quartz Clock Movements?

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Quartz clock movementI don’t know if this is the cheapest you’ll find quartz clock movements online but I really doubt you’ll find better at just $2.00 a piece!

They’re quality movements too - made in the USA.

OK, so you’re going to need a few cents more for hands, which are not included, but it’s still a great price. If you can find better, please let me know!

Quartz fit upsClockparts summer special offers also include these 2-1/4 inch (72mm) precision quartz clock fit ups which are available at 90% off. Yep, that’s just one tenth of the normal price. I really don’t know how they do it.

As usual these are limited time offers. They haven’t said exactly when that but it’s probably only while stocks of these quartz clock movements last. I’d recommend you get over there quick. Full details here: Clockparts Summer Specials.

How Accurate Is Your Clock Movement?

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

radio controlled clock movementThese radio controlled clock movements may not look very impressive, but they’re certainly accurate - to within one second every million years!

The secret is the radio signal that it picks up four times a day, from Fort Collins, Colorado. This signal resets the movement by tiny fractions of a second so your clock is as near right as humanly possible. It will even adjust itself for daylight savings.

This clock movement is maintenance free too - the only thing you’ll ever need to do is add a battery, and each of those should last about a year.

You’d probably expect it to be expensive. A radio controlled clock movement this accurate can’t be cheap, can it? Well in fact it can. While stocks last Clockparts have them for just $8.50 each - and if you buy 5 you get another FREE.

So although they’ll be right for a long time they may not be around for a long time - If you want some you better get over to Clockparts website now!

Dovetails are a breeze with the new Leigh Super Jig!

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Leigh Super Dovetail JigLeigh have just announced their new Super Dovetail Jig and when you look at the spec you can see why they called it Super.

It’s available in 3 sizes: 12-inch, 18-inch and 24-inch, so there’s bound to be one that suits your pocket and the dovetail job you need to do.

This dovetail jig is quality piece of kit as you’d expect from the Leigh and it has a number of innovations including a new and patent pending router support and dust extraction system to pull away the vast majority of the dust that these type of jigs normally create.

You need to visit the Woodcraft site to read the full spec, but to give you a flavor this jig will produce variable through and half-blind dovetails and cut your pin and tail boards in the same pass. Infinite variability also guarantees you get half pins at either end of your board whatever layout you’re using.

Woodcraft currently have special deals on the new Leigh Super Dovetail Jig and Accessory Kits and you can save anything from $25.99 to $49.99 depending which jig you choose.

I’ve got some new furniture to build for our house renovation and I’m going to have no trouble convincing my wife that I need one of these to do it with!

Full details here: Woodcraft / Leight Super Dovetail Jig Offers.

Record DML 24X/C Woodturning Lathe - powerful little guy!

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

It’s not very often that I come across two consecutive offers for woodworking tools that I can thoroughly recommend from the point of view of being an owner and user. First it was the Flexcut chisels (see below) and now this Record woodturning lathe.

Record DML24 woodturning lathe

I can’t remember how long I’ve had mine - it’s certainly over fifteen years. Back then it was just called the DML24, now they’ve tweaked it a bit and it’s the DML24X/C. Whatever, it’s still the same great little lathe, ideal for the beginner but tough, durable and useful even when you’ve been turning for years.

It’s made in Sheffield, England, which has been making top quality tools for centuries, and comes with a five year warranty. Mine hasn’t missed a beat in three times that. Normally this lathe sells for close to $320.00 and because of its reputation is always in short supply. Just at the moment Woodcraft have very limited stocks for $199.99. I doubt you’ll ever see it at that price again so if you’re at all interested you need to act right now. Click here for full spec and to order.

Flexcut - the ultimate tool for detail carving?

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Flexcut chiselsI have a few Flexcut chisels myself - I like to dabble with carving although I’m no expert. Along with my Pfeil chisels these are my favorites. They’re light, flexible and can be kept razor sharp with ease.

When you want to get into a tight corner there’s nothing quite like a Flexcut. If you’ve never tried one you’re in for a treat.

Even better, at the moment Woodcraft are offering a great deal on this boxed Flexcut Carving Starter Set which includes all the carving chisels shown plus a relief woodcarving DVD.

It’s $15.00 off while stocks last, bringing this terrific carving set down to just $164.99 and that even includes the slip-strop and honing compound to keep your chisels at their sharpest. Visit Woodcraft’s website here for all the details and to order your set.
