Jet have announced a new wet sharpener and have taken time and trouble in making sure it’s right before releasing it. The result is a slow speed system thats packed with features at a market leading price.

For instance, the motor - a 1.8 Amp, 120V induction unit - is enclosed to keep water and debris out. It’s also adjustable from 90 to 150 rpm so you ensure optimum speed for your sharpening task. The water tray is enlarged so you don’t get run-off all over your bench and there’s a storage tray that sits neatly underneath to keep your accessories in (which are compatible with the more expensive Tormek system).
Woodworkers who buy it are getting a quality piece of kit, as you’d expect from Jet. The basic unit consists of stone grader, straight edge jig, angle set-up jig, support arm, magnified bevel checking gauge, honing compound and training DVD. The price is very competitive at just $299.99.
BUT, until 31st January, Woodcraft are throwing in the storage unit and diamond honing guide FREE, a saving of $159.00.

The guys (and gals) over at Woodcraft are at it again with a great offer on Pfeil chisels which effectively adds up to $25 off. It’s not actually $25 off but it is a gift card you can use against your next purchase.
There are a couple of sets on special offer, but if bench chisels aren’t what you need right now you can still get the gift card so long as you spend more than $100 on the Pfeil range of carving chisels. I have half a dozen of these beautiful Swiss made chisels myself and I absolutely love them. They’re superbly constructed and hold an absolutely razor sharp edge. You really could shave with them.
Full details of the offer and the complete Pfeil chisels range are available by clicking here.

No more squinting at tiny scales! That’s the boast from Rockler for their new table saw crosscut sled. The reason is the large protractor scale on the end of the fence which allows you to tune your setting of angles for precise miters and super accurate crosscuts. The easy-read scale is in half degree graduations and error-free setups are further helped by the hairline indicator.
The large, clean MDF surface is just what you want when cutting large panels and low-friction tape allows for smooth, easy guiding.
There is a high quality fence in heavy duty aluminum, with an adjustable MDF face which is simple and economical to replace when it eventually wears. There’s also a sliding flip-down stop and an aluminum hold-down to hold your material firmly while cutting. The mitre bar contains spring-loaded bearings for a tight fit to the track which will help guarantee silky smooth, accurate cutting.
Rockler have put a lot of thought into their new table saw crosscut sled and produced a high-quality product at a market-beating price, but then that’s what you’d expect from Rockler! For further details click here.

Dear Santa - can I have one of these please?
I’ve just had an email telling me about Incra’s new “Build-It” jig system starter kit and as a regular jig-bodger, if Santa doesn’t come through I’m going to have to shell out myself!
Image all the time this kit is going to save. Half the problem with building woodworking jigs is (a) the time it takes and (b) getting everything absolutely straight and square - because if you want repeatability
(which is presumably why you’re building a jig in the first place) you better be spot on at the start. I know some people like building jigs for the sake of making them, but to be honest if someone offers me a faster, better engineered solution then I’d rather be making the thing itself than the jig.
Incra appear to have provided exactly that solution with this modular system. It
starts with their aluminum runner - the mitre slider - and then you add bits to it to make the jig of your choice; Build-It panels, T-slot panel connectors, mitre sliders, clamps, brackets, T-tracks… all accurate, all made to fit each other. Just the job.
Incra even include 5 jig plans in the kit - although you’ll soon be making many variations to suit your own woodworking needs.
The complete starter kit includes: 1 x large Build-It panel, 1 x small Build-It panel, 2 x 18” T-slot panel connectors, 1 x 18” mitre slider, 1 x Build-It clamp, 1 pair Build-It brackets, 8 x Build-It knobs, 1 x 18” T-track regular, 1 x 18” T-track plus and is available for just $119.99. Being modular,extra components can be added as and when you need them.
You can order yours online from Woodcraft.com or Rockler.com

Stanley Tools have just released a range of woodwork tool bags. While they are obviously aimed at the Christmas market they are definitely going to be around a good deal longer than 12 days!
Packed with a varied collection of Stanley’s quality tools there are different bags to suit different people or projects.
The “Fatmax Xtreme” has ten tools suited to professionals and advanced DIYers. The “Gadget Guru” has what they claim are their unique and innovative tools. There are sets for “Professional Woodworkers” and “Aspiring Woodworkers”. Even one called “Do-It-Herself” (a little patronizing perhaps but it’s still a good looking set!).
There are 11 different sets in all, all available online from stanleytools.com or you can check their site for a local retailer.
